During Arizona's Fourth of July celebrations this year, DPS warns drivers not to risk lives or fines by stopping illegally along highways to watch fireworks shows.
DPS Highway Patrol officers will be patrolling highways to deter and punish drivers that stop in the middle or pull onto the shoulder to watch the fireworks. Anyone who stops can expect a citation, and those who endanger other lives can face a lot of liability.
Officers will gather most closely around the stretch of the Red Mountain 202 near Tempe Beach Park, which is where drivers most often stop to watch the show.
Drivers can stay safe and keep others safe by pulling off the highway and finding a safe place to enjoy the fireworks.
