Mom and Boyfriend Charged in Amber Alert Kidnappings

FLORENCE, Ariz. (AP) — Pinal County authorities say a woman and her boyfriend have been charged in the kidnapping of three children, including her two daughters.

County sheriff's officials said Wednesday that 43-year-old Veronica Frances Aleksiejczyk-Rivera and 48-year-old Martin Leon-Villanueva are facing three counts each of kidnapping, endangerment, child abuse and custodial interference.

Authorities say two sisters— ages 12 and 16 — and another 12-year-old girl sneaked out of their foster home June 13 around 1:30 a.m. to meet Rivera. They were then picked up by Rivera.

Investigators located them after receiving tips through an Amber Alert.

Deputies say Rivera's parental rights have been severed since 2010.

Leon-Villanueva told authorities that he was not aware of his girlfriend's plan but didn't report it because he is in the U.S. illegally.
