PHOENIX (AP) — A severe monsoon storm left thousands in metropolitan Phoenix without power this morning. Some residents woke up Sunday to find last night's storm had left a trail of uprooted trees and down utility poles.
Utility officials say more than 25,000 people across Phoenix had no electricity. Arizona Public Service says about 15,000 customers were affected and crews are working as quickly as possible to restore power.
Salt River Project says nearly 10,000 households initially lost power late Saturday.
SRP spokesman Scott Harelson says fewer than 100 customers were still waiting but would likely have power back by mid-day.
Harelson says most of the outages were relegated to eastern suburbs including Mesa, Apache Junction and Queen Creek.
